1/2 I don't think the price of games has to be set at anything. People will pay for what they think is worth it. We've seen this hundreds of times with cheaper games over the years, HK, terraria, omori, etc. People will happily pay a price for something they find quality. - ThreadSky

Nintendo makes a lot of games really difficult to make $60 worth, let alone $80. Scarlet and Violet as an example is NOT an $80 game, or even a $60 game. I would agree that the Zelda games are worth $60 and would pay that price for them, but the quality of Zelda isn't found is very many switch games

I love unfinished low quality textures, bad 3d models, lifeless pokemon animations, constant artifacts on my screen, low quality visual effects and barren open areas purely there just to be an open area

Especially instead of high quality energetic animations and high quality sprite work with proper cutscenes and story beats where every area of the map is filled with something instead of nothing

Nintendo and Game Freak are two entirely different developers. Their product quality is vastly different. Why are we blaming Nintendo for GameFreak and TPC being bad at games? They don’t use their in-house staff on those at all.

S/V is not an in-house Nintendo game, GF and TPC run that clown show and I’d argue Nintendo often spaces itself from Pokemon. Zelda at $70. Mario Kart is absolutely a marquee title that is probably the 3rd most effort game Nintendo makes behind Mario and Zelda. Good reason it’s more than DK

Nintendo is still a giant corporation, just because they are Nintendo doesn't mean they suddenly like you or care about you. Nintendo has been involved with as much shit as any other large corporation and they do the same shit as the rest of them too.

I agree, but it’s important to not that making games isnt as simple as throwing money at it, it takes time and talent as well, the two big switch 2 games (Mario kart and DK) seem to have been in development for a while

If your point is most first party Nintendo games don’t deserve to be priced at $60, you’re just wrong. Your argument sounds like “Nintendo should operate at a loss because they already have earned so much money” and that is insane to me. I’m not ignoring your point, it’s just a bad point.

Comparing indie devs to AAA devs is apples to oranges. The production costs are typically much lower for indie devs due to several factors, including less staff, fewer physical copies produced, and having less of a a track record in general, being less proven means lower prices in general.

I get your points here, but the production cost argument doesn't really make a lot of sense when Nintendo has so much income to spend the cost to make a new game is literally meaningless when you see their pile of cash
