Why is it possible to pick up a pair of XL gloves, from a supermarket, for £5, that fit me comfortably, but I can't find a pair of cycling gloves that do the same?

I've tried using these cheap gloves on the bike, but the seeams aren't up to all those gear changes, sadly.
