it's not the kind of tower defence I'm thinking of (your towers turn into units), but Legion TD was my favourite.

always played as the undead faction and built a wall of skeletons. Everyone gawked at me not using the higher tier units, but it almost worked (until level 40+ usually)

Oh yeah I think I played that for awhile and then there was a pvp version (kind of like 2p tetris) called like mafia td or something like that. Both were hella fun

i think legion already was pvp, you had two teams composed of 4 players, and if their forces succeeded against their lane, they'd warp to the king to defend it from leaks from other players. You could increase your income by spawning additional monsters for the other team, first king dead looses.
