I think I can narrow down to 5 or 6.

One is Kavalier and Clay, I know that.

Then maybe the Cornish Trilogy omnibus by Robertson Davies, or The Lucky Stiff by Craig Rice, or The Essential Ellison by Harlan Ellison, or A Bear Called Paddington by Michael Bond. Or Code of the Woosters by Wodehouse.

Was thinking about Ryan North's "How to Invent Everything," mostly because then I will know how to invent a fridge to keep my salad cold, but knowing what plants go in the salad is a good first step!
