@mosseri just announced that #Threads users can finally follow fediverse accounts. Which means you can now reach 200M people from your Mastodon account without ever using Threads yourself. True decentralization happens on the fediverse!

@Gargron @mosseri "200M" number is misleading as it's total monthly active user count for threads.net. Only a small amount of them has enabled federation
@Gargron @mosseri true decentralization would be allowing the fediverso to follow threads accounts. So far meta is the only part reaping the benefits of federation.
@Gargron Thanks to everyone for the engagement so far. To be clear, I don't want Mastodon to fade into obscurity. Eugen is claiming that Mastodon is the best social platform, and I don't see it as long as its still missing standard features like DMs. The default app doesn't have a traditional […]
I would love post notifications too btw but a proper DM implementation is the main thing I want. More users benefit from having a traditional DM UI, so I will fight for that before any other feature.
@Gargron I'd concede if Mastodon repivoted to being a niche platform, and tapped into that instead. A DM feature wouldn't matter as much for a niche platform. From what I'm hearing, Mastodon's core users don't want Mastodon to be mainstream anyways.
I financially support the development of the Ivory app, absolutely love the Fediverse, and also absolutely love it here. I use the bridge. I think true decentralization is the future.
For those who are concerned about harassment, stalking, and data harvesting threats from Threads ... if you're on an instance that doesn't block Threads, the risks just increased substantially.
@Gargron @mosseri good news, thanks for sharing! I really like that I can interact with both, Bluesky and Threads accounts (at least theoretically / if they finally enable fedi sharing in the EU) from the safety of my trusted Mastodon instance :blobcatsunglasses:
How many of these 200M are actually posting or engaging? Just because someone logged in once doesn't mean that the platform has the scale to be a true network.

How it feels now I can get followers from both #Threads and #Bluesky (through #BridgyFed).
The only thing holding me back is the quality of my posts 😉
Hey @zuck, you can finally follow me! :neocat_3c:
Congrats! The more platforms support ActivityPub the better, this is awesome!
