The language of advertising in the service of politics. Trump is a product, not of Washington but of Madison Avenue. Lies for money. Sex and death. Brand recognition. Celebrity, poses, scripts, “the look” from Central Casting. Of course he uses stock photos and paid actors.

I remember reading 10 years ago that news and advertising were merging in an unholy union by which advertising took on the gravitas of a news format. Like reality tv. Information carrying persuasion like product placement in a documentary film.
The Hidden Persuaders are still working.

Thanks for the free article. My experience talking to my Trump voting friends is like Josh Carter's experience. They don't like Trump, they don't listen to him, but they feared Harris as an incompetent socialist who would turn the US into Venezuela. Propaganda works, and not just on the uneducated.

I read this right after scrolling through some annoying but harmless AI content on Facebook, whose feed is increasingly pointless. As consumers, it seems essential that we push back by blocking, reporting, quitting, and boycotting the flood of fake content before truth is wholly annihilated.
