Deep mining coal is not done. They strip mine coal which requires fewer employees to produce far more. The companies are not on the hook for black lung disease. Friendly environmental laws allow them to rape the land. Even non coal mining like phosphate, clay and sand are god awful. See Florida.

I know someone whose family consisted of miners, and the coal seams just aren't there. They're thin and their paths are erratic, and it's just not very cost-effective to spend a lot of time and money trying to get that little bit out of the ground.

Actual coal production was increasing until 2008. If your goal is increasing total energy output, and if you think climate change is good, it makes sense. Maybe his goal is to have ice melt, to expose land and let the coasts food. It would open polar sea lanes.

Energy companies have been VOLUNTARILY moving away from coal. It’s expensive, inefficient, and unclean. Anyone who thinks it’s dying because of regulation isn’t actually paying any attention to the industry
