Yesterday the US treasuries were not being bought. In fact, it looks like a lot of people were selling them. Who? Why, if they are safe? Theories: other countries selling, because of politics and/or no faith the US will pay its bonds. Could also be businesses needed cash to deal with tariffs. But -

If a market has no faith in a bond like the US treasuries and thinks the issuer will not actually pay later, they sell them at a loss. That’s the yield folks were talking about - that you could by treasuries cheap compared to the money returned or initially invested. The ones sold at loss are junk.

Junk bonds from a big company that may not pay out are one thing. Even from a municipality (city or county, or school district). But when a country’s bonds hit junk status, it hurts the faith in the country’s currency too. The US has not been in this boat for decades. But we could be. What happens?
