In short, it's a nice piece of PR for Patrick and Texas Republicans and likely meaningless for patients. It's just way for him to seem as if he's open to softening on the issue - and media outlets totally bought it.

When Texas Lt Gov. Dan Patrick was asked about punishing women for abortion, he called the idea "ridiculous." He said it's just a "few people somewhere” who want that & "they don’t speak for Republicans."

But this 'ridiculous' outlier idea is actually in the Texas GOP platform!

Indiana currently is trying to introduce Senate Bill 171 that further criminalizes and restricts abortion. Possessing abortion-inducing drugs will be a felony.
