The colors aren't visible to the eye, but they aren't arbitrary. In essence, they are what you'd see if you shifted the visible rainbow of colors into the infrared.

It is amazing. One wonders what the next generation of telescope in space will see. The thought of how many galaxies there are, and how tiny a spec we are in ours. It is insane to think about.
