If you came into the debate with a partisan preference (I did. I fully support @StevenFulop.bsky.social) I didn’t see anything that would cause a change in that preference.

Montclair. He had the most disingenuous reply of the night, trying to convince us his vast $ comes from small donors. GMFB.

Seemed to me Sherrill (the odds makers favorite based largely) on name recognition was particularly underwhelming. None of her answers popped or stood out.

Gottheimer was obviously a man on a repetition mission & can say he accomplished it.

Baraka established himself as a well qualified candidate & it was a shrewd debate tactic by him to force Spiller into the whopper I mentioned earlier.

Sweeney was everything you can expect him to be, a machine Democrat defending a deeply flawed process that occasionally creates a good outcome but mostly creates apathy & frustration.

Fulop gave some of the most detailed answers of the debate & was ready, willing & able to dish out the hard truths

even if they’re not pollster approved. He clearly understands the processes we use to make policy do, in fact, determine the policies we get. He should also get bonus points for being the only one to mention the changes we made with @AndyKimNJ.bsky.social last year & our need to build on them.

It was interesting to see how evenly divided the candidates are between those relying on county bosses (Sherrill, Gottheimer, Sweeney) & those ready to move the party beyond that (Fulop, Baraka, Spiller). It will be interesting to see what happens Should one of the latter prevail on June 10th.

Fulop and Baraka tried to emphasize their experience at the "municipal level," that this is something our governors have been lacking in order to understand the issues in the state. Spiller also, of course, but Montclair is much smaller than JC or Newark. Now the GOP debate, what a train wreck!

Almost every Tues there's an election somewhere in the US. We have a big bench of great candidates in so many places. Regularly check your registration and vote!
