I study gun violence. There are several technologies that could reduce accidental discharges. They could also tie weapons to a specific individual, but these things would make guns cost much more & we can’t have anything that hurts the firearm industry or impedes the purchase of personal armories.

A MANUAL safety must be engaged MANUALLY by an intelligent, competent, human.
We don't have enough of those.

We need to file first degree MURDER charges on the adults responsible for those guns and those kids.

These deaths are completely foreseeable.

Rule 1: a child should NEVER be able to reach or touch a gun.

Rule 2: store your gun in condition 3; no round in the chamber. Children lack the hand strength necessary to chamber a round.

Following these two rules would prevent most accidental shootings.

Rule 1 makes Rule 2 unnecessary.

A safety on the gun is the measure of last resort. If the only thing keeping your kid from shooting himself is a safety switch on the firearm, you’ve already failed.

While I agree with your sentiment, not all failures are equal.
It is one thing to succeed in keeping the gun out of a child's hand, quite another to keep that gun from firing lethally. I believe in having double protection when lives are at stake.

I agree my grandkids are a lot older now but even when they were a little younger they knew how to handle a gun they knew where they were and knew not to touch them because they knew what could happen with them but we will in a big city and they seen stuff happen all the time so they wanted no part

Seems like separate issues blended. It would never occur to me or anyone I know to leave a firearm in easy access of a child. Anyone who would needs to be held legally responsible for the consequences. Some handguns have safeties, some don't. I prefer not to have a safety for a defense handgun.

If you train, that lever is no issue, but can save children’s lives. It may never occur to you, but kids accessing guns and killing is an every day occurrence. Meanwhile only 26 states have Child Access Prevention laws to hold negligent parents accountable.
