Ah, so while cotton was grown in the Deep South, it was turned into yarn, blankets, clothing, etc in the mills of New England. White's Factory is a sort of pre-industrial cotton mill, while massive mill complexes later sprouted in cities like New Bedford, Lowell, Pawtucket, and Fall River.
Never really thought about it. I remember one in Keene, NH, that I apart started a site in when it was turned into a mall, and I know Manchester has more than a few. I just never thought much about what exactly they milled.
