The article on how Neil Gaiman violently abused vulnerable young women for decades hiding behind a “I’m a dorky bri’ ish man I am!” Veneer made me remember that evergeeen Orson Wells Interview

I’m not excusing Gaiman’s actions or saying everyone who suffers trauma goes onto become abusive themselves, I hope Gaiman fucks off into the woods and stops his “the REAL heroes are the princesses who rescue themselves” cringe tweets, I also hope him and Palmer’s kid becomes a ward of the state
But growing up being taught if someone is mean to you, it’s something you did and you need to have grace for them, it’s in my nature to look at what could lead someone to act in such an awful way
I was talking about this with a mutual, I don’t think Gaiman is some suave Jelkyl/Hyde situation, I think like victims who can’t brake the cycle, he sees himself as only a hero or a victim. He has never done the work to heal. Writing books isn’t healing. So he beats young women.
And it seems he found a counselor who agrees with him or won't challenge him. Not surprising because of Psychiatrists being Scientologists Enemy Number One... Otherwise we'd see some acceptance of responsibility
Anecdotal, but everyone I’ve known who has refused therapy always justified it with “my parents said therapy was for crazy people/my parents used it as a threat to ‘fix’ me” or some other childhood trauma, so it’s no wonder growing up in a Scientologist household that he wouldn’t consider therapy
One of his victims said “I don’t think he knows what boundries are” and this hits the nail on the head. Be it a cruel upbringing or just having tons of money and power, the idea of respect for other people “lower” than him isn’t there.
This is a great quote and I can see exactly where he's coming from. It's that "uwu look at me I'm just a smol bean" shit thar Joss Whedon was also doing
Good actors are good at their craft because they are very observant about people. Can’t effectively wear other humans like skin in an acting role without deeply understanding what makes them tick. Orson Wells was very insightful to see beyond the superficial mask people wear.
Orson Welles: a would-be alpha ape who tried hard to get higher up on the rock, fearing failure.
Loudmouth Welles was jealous of many colleagues.
Particularly movie directors more successful & beloved than he. And those who attracted more beautiful female apes than he did.
It’s a false timidity is his point. It’s from self-loathing. He is arrogant, but afraid to be too loud lest the veil drop and everyone see the monster inside. That sort of thing.
Yeah it's not just "timid", it's "hey everyone, look at how timid I am, I'm so shy, it's hard for me to be around people, I just wanted to make sure everyone knew as to excuse my actions".
A genuinely timid person puts on a brave face, tries to be nice, and then excuses themself when it's too much.
"I'm a very wealthy man and I'm used to getting what I want."
That's the real Neil Gaiman.
IMO anyone who says a sentence like that has negated being an artist.

Such a weak character.
