How absolutely incredible!!! I had a falcon land on my deck railing a month ago. It was after the quail that were on the grass. I didn’t get a pic but I was in a zoom meeting and jumped up and yelped!

Went out to the feeders the other day. A Junco came to a mulberry branch two feet away and started peeping (screaming) at me. About that time one of these bad boys took off from two or three feet away on the other side of the tree. Startled and amazed.

Thrilling for sure! I've had red tails fly right past me on trail just a few meters away. By the time I realized what was happening it was too late to get a photo. I haven't seen any red shouldered hawks though.

that's interesting. we had a similar event a few days ago. We attributed it to stress from habitat destruction (fires in the mountains just above us. It's pretty unusual from my limited experience for them to tolerate people so much. I wonder if there's a larger issue going on.

Yeah, the effects on its habitat could certainly do it. What a shame. For this hawk I'm guessing it really needed a good meal before night time. It's been a very cold windy week so they may have had trouble finding prey.

Stunning--what a great experience! I had a RTH land on my patio, 16' away (patio blocks are 4'x4', so I know), and just stand there, looking at me while I sat in my rocking chair. I didn't move--barely breathed--because it was just so beautiful!
