“… and this will cause widespread food shortages (think coffee, cacao beans, many fruits and veggies, especially off-season and tropical). The Trump transition team member said: “maybe Americans shouldn’t eat those foods.”

Their whole plan is to destroy the American economy. They've already destroyed our institutions. The final blows to those will come within a year of 20 Jan. Boycotting coffee would drop the price. Getting enough cooperation will be a difficult task. Leaders will rise for things like that, eventually
The idea that they will EVER admit they are wrong with their grand plans is hilarious. They will try to convince us that eating plastic is healthy before they'd admit they were wrong. And have before.
So will Captain Brainworm tell us to be healthy we actually need to abstain from fruits, vegetables, vaccines and science ? Oh and you do away with coffee and there will be a civil war ;)
I would have guessed a bit higher, tbh. And another thing, the produce we do actually grow has to be picked by someone...and the new administration wants to deport a large percentage of them!
"Maybe Americans shouldn't eat bananas" is what I'm hearing. Seriously, though, check out where most of the produce in the supermarket comes from at any given time, but especially starting about now, season-wise. We do SO MUCH trade in agricultural products, both import and export.
Consider: Italian foods.
This will put a hurt on the restaurant industry at all price points. Pizza prices will skyrocket.
Prices at Lidl, Aldi, and Trader Joe’s -which source loads of items overseas-will all rise.
‼️This Christmas, stock up on foreign staples, not splurges and treats.
Today was long, doing the first of it. “Needs must, when the devil drives.” Was ever a statement more applicable?
Next week, we make candied peel and start legacy 🇬🇧 and 🇮🇹 Christmas foods❤️🎄
This would push people into eating more processed foods....and RFK is going to war on those....so I guess our government is going to starve us. Yay freedom! 🙄
We must wake up and….
realize that these people are severely deranged and cruel. Drunk from any position of power and bereft from empathy….
Smell the coffee is what I want to keep doing.
A cabinet minister in the UK (ironically named Therese Coffey) suggested we rely on turnips when we had food shortages of our own last year. That went down like a shit sandwich. Still, she got a
Damehood out of it. Aren’t governments brilliant.
Well, some people are going to have a new appreciation for the countries he called shithole countries, which, by the way, experienced many of their best and brightest leave their country to come make an honest and productive life here.
A minister in our previous government said something similar, referring to shortages of fresh vegetables post Brexit. Literally, eat turnips during the winter. Now, I'm pro seasonal eating, but it's unrealistic to expect a diet of only seasonal, native foods. The turnip suggestion wasn't popular.
Buy seeds. Make connections with a farmer. Start volunteering working for a farmer and create your own farm co-op. Invest your time in your future and think about it like a hobby. The worst thing that can happen is you will have learn how to grow food. And possibly have access to it.
I can’t. I work full time while caring for my husband with dementia. Although all the farmers in my area are going to need help soon after these deportations.
I run a nursery, where we sell coffee plants, kind of as a novelty. It takes about 5 years for one plant to start producing a pound of coffee per year.
That's why instead of playing pickle ball you start going to farmers markets and make friends with the farmers. Then you volunteer to work for them. I used to work for a local farmer and we set up a deal where I actually worked at as farmers market more food than I could ever use.
Maybe democratic politicians need to start repeating Trump will take away your coffee over and over again so it breaks through to the people who don't really pay attention
I mean, if they don't then we were always fucking beyond doomed from the start so might as well just shrug and ignore politics entirely ourselves as well and just focus purely on our own social lives.
That's not even remotely what I meant lol. Besides, in my own personal lived experience... that doesn't fucking work, least not in my HEAVILY TRUMPIAN rural slice of Indiana.
I was more meaning giving up on politics and just trying to live the best life one can while one is able to.
As long as cheap beer is available, the MAGA base won't care much. Most of them have chickens running around the backyard anyway, so I don't understand why they care about the price of eggs.
Sigh. Another Boomer here who can't drink caffeine after lunchtime any more.
Bustelo's part Robusta; they also make an all-Arabica coffee, but it's not as good as their main product.
And NJ's Gov Jim Florio in the 90s got SO much abuse for requiring that NJ restaurants recommend well-cooked eggs (there was a salmonella outbreak in NJ/nearby chicken farms going on.)
While there are small blips in distribution due to avian flu, it doesn’t cause enough of a decrease of production to cause major price increases. There are a handful of large egg producers and they have a monopoly of the business and a few have been fined for price fixing.
Bird Flu, like birds themselves, Doesn't Exist!
The price of eggs was entirely Biden's fault!!
See my Rumbled video for a complete 43-hour explanation!!!
(And RFKjr's probably going to tell us we should eat fewer eggs because chickens eat seeds and seed oils are Evil.)
Oh but they were all about food security or whatever when the meat packing plant employees didn't want to work cheek and jowl and die of covid. They ordered them back to work. The ones they want to deport now...
Smuckers is? Bummer. I've liked them as a company.
(And it's Bustelo, not Bustella. I've got some in my freezer;
it's my wife's preferred coffee, and in the 80s I'd keep a jar of their instant at work for caffeinating weak coffee :-)
That's one of my favorites, the Mexico style and the espresso. But I also love Community Coffee, made in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, especially their dark and french roasts.
Stoccing up on EVERYTHING! In fact I had that conversation today. Not just food - electronics or any clothing, etc you may be needing in the next couple-few years. Time to get that upgraded phone & laptop, before Jan 20!
I told a maga that coffee is the perfect example as it is grown primarily in Hawaii in the US. His response? They will expand operations...in...Hawaii. 🤦
This is ridiculous as Pele Plantations had to move their roasting operations to Seattle due to costs and they export organic Kona Coffee…Ag is king on BI and local farmers are developing sustainable food crops to help reduce the dependence on imported, expensive packaged crap…maga won’t happen there
🤦♂️ omg! I can’t, yes coffee is grown in Hawaii but where are they expanding on an island. Born and raised there, there isn’t that much room to further expand.
I bought two years worth of household supplies last week. TP, kleenex, cleaning supplies, soap, toothpaste, deodorant, and other bathroom stuff. Shelf stable canned goods, coffee, rice, 25lbs of flour and a pound of yeast bc I bake weekly. Sugar, pam spray, all of my oils, spices and you get it!
You are clearly some kind of blue-leaning, anti-American alarmist. As we speak I am tilling my acreage in the Hudson Valley to put in a coffee plantation. Locals will work the land for $2/hour. I've also spoken to my doorman about doing so on the co-op's roof garden. we all most do our part.
(adding to the satire) All the fired federal workers will be looking for work, so you'll have workers. And they better have a job, because vagrancy laws (a tool from the Jim Crow era) will be revived.
So…Gates, Zuckerberg, Musk and Oprah are gonna’ let them borrow their huge estates in Hawaii to grow coffee? Otherwise, we’ll just have to do without pineapples….don’t know if I can hang with that!
Yes, excellent plan. Except where exactly on my island are they going to expand coffee bean farming? We might be the Big Island but it’s not THAT big. Also, Kona coffee is crazy expensive. Enjoy your $5 home brewed cup
Who ever that was who paraphrased Marie Antoinette will discover FAFO real quick & what it is to be denied his coffee fixes, his chocolate treats, non seasonal stone fruits & berries, cucumbers, lettuces, melons, cruciferous veggies, etc….
🤣🤣🤣
why of course we SHOULD eat only food that does not require huge carbon burns to transport across the globe - eat locally, right? - climate, local economics, etc ... all good.
Americans are spoiled tyrants and expect whatever they want regardless of cost, ... it will be paid by future generations
Great point. Grew up in Michigan. Sugar can be grown in U.S. in the form of sugar beets. Also sweet ingredients like maple syrup & maple sugar from trees. Who knows what the future may bring. But I agree it’s the ‘ingredients’ most people have no clue about. Thinking about my Madagascar vanilla!
These people are so angry at the world that they're illing to burn down the economy to show how "powerful" they are. Let them bring it. 2026 is coming.
I wouldn't worry, if there's one thing Americans are known for it's for being patient & understanding when told we can't have a material good the exact second we want it.
It’s a known fact that everything, either grown here in the US or overseas, has, from the farm to your plate, passed through the hands of a brown person.
What about all those old white MAGA guys in diners across America that will completely go ape shit when their cup of coffee is five bucks? I want to be there for that.
Related: have you seen this letter to Kamala Harris from computer experts asking for a recount because there was election fuckery and we should stop fascism before it can walk through the front doors of the White House and never leave
There will be no next cycle. He controls the house senate Doj and the Supreme Court with full immunity. Why would he give up any control. He already said there will be no more elections.
I agree, but im having a hard time estimating the fallout. Are we down to farming and sewing our own clothes? I assume the economy will collapse fairly quick. I only have a basic knowledge of economics, i feel like we should be getting some guidance.
This is starting to feel familiar… they do know about the Boston Tea Party, right? The Stamp Act? The Sugar Act? For people who want to go put America back in time, they don’t seem to know their history very well…
Some people are saying to stick around and help the public until it’s unbearable but I wonder if in the long run it’s better to let these morons fall on their face right away.
And they already bitch about the cost of a cup of coffee! Good luck finding beans less than $25/lb. A regular Snickers is like $4... like, wtf? It's not that difficult of a concept. Why are MAGATs so effing dumb???
so we should 1) purchase & stockpile coffee now while still cheap
2) store in cool dry place
3) sell at a moderate profit but less than w/ imposed tariffs
will we then be considered black marketing and will Team Trump start w/ a coffee stamp or something like it?
I was talking to my Latino neighbor yesterday about tariffs and she said Mexico will stop sends my food to us .. I said why she said the tariffs I said we are the ones that pay not Mexico her face said it all !
Take away my "coffee out" in the morning? It's my "out of the house" start, my hour of "world catch up" on social media, my people-watching pleasure, my hullo & TU to the lovely barristas who know my order, my time to start a new book that just arrived ... "stabby" is not a strong enough word.

Please put Folgers on sale one more time before Trump's inauguration. And please raise the limit from 5 to 25.

Same way it’s not about ‘ending wars’ (hello war in Yemen)
Damehood out of it. Aren’t governments brilliant.
So, yeah, prices would go up because supply won't meet demand.
At least, until climate change destroys the places that they grow.
Thanks very much! 😀
I was more meaning giving up on politics and just trying to live the best life one can while one is able to.
I think focusing on your own life is more important than saving these people.
Well, yes they are!
No chocolate …
Yeah, good luck with that.
I REALLY hate this timeline.
When does the escape ship leave for Earth 2?
RFK: SECRET RECIPE? NOT ON MY WATCH!
Oh this will be fun.
It's a good thing that Americans don't like coffee or chocolate.
~ 5-6 dollars a dozen. More in the winter w shorter days / lower production.
(And I don’t even drink the stuff)

Need that jo.
About to fill my freezer with lots and lots of packages of whole coffee beans.
The rich will always consume whatever they want.
🤣🤣🤣
2. not happening
we can still afford it in a few months.
Americans are spoiled tyrants and expect whatever they want regardless of cost, ... it will be paid by future generations
Dried beans
Flour

We'llbe eating like the 19th cent pioneers the rw thinks they emulate....

No more fresh vegetables in winter. At least not ones we can afford.
