The Assembly votes to veto, the president declares martial law and decrees the Assembly invalid and sends the military to block their entry to vote against him.
I saw a little BBC coverage last night. So much better than PBS and obviously the corporate media. And they didn’t have any Yoon apologists on either. Why can’t we have something like the BBC here?
I’ve been getting my news fix from BBC for the last 2 months. I couldn’t handle any of the “news” programs here. I watch them on TV and I listen to them while driving. Even NPR went sideways 😓
AP has the story too, but I can't really understand the political dynamics. They say the opposition party is accused of sympathy with N Korea and that is all it says to characterize them.
From the article: “previous instances of martial law involved arrests and imprisonment.” I don’t remember hearing about these previous incidents in S Korea, do you?
What in South Korea will happen here. Their safeguards held. With the Magits controlling the three branches of government, the safeguards left are us, the non- deplorables. Like all disasters, you need to be prepared.
Same. But I have zero faith in any elected republican to have the same courage as the South Koreans. Ours are a bunch of cowards, terrified at the thought of losing their grift chair.
We'll have to get our news from BBC soon. Because the government will take over our news stations. At least BBC will tell the truth about us in the U.S.
To be honest the BBC is fawning over right wingers around the world as the Board of BBC is full of them. They rarely criticise Trump & are very anti Scotland.
Interesting, as a lot of right wingers say that the beeb is full of and controlled by lefty liberals who did everything to undermine the last Tory government. Makes me think that they are actually impartial
Years of right wing domination on Question Time hosted by the wife of right wing tool, platforming Reform PLC at every opportunity but hardly ever Scottish Parliament MSPs is a good indicator of their bias imo.
Yes Fiona Bruce did turn Question Time into a right wing mouth piece, but that's one show. The reason Scots aren't really on it is because unless the show is in Scotland, they're representing no voters, SNP, Plaid etc don't contest seats in England where as the 3 big parties contest all of UK bar...
Northern Ireland.Politics live is a good show as is newscast and the news programs are far more impartial than the likes of C4, sky and the disaster that's GBNews. All I'm saying is that alot of people on both sides say BBC is either too left or right but that in itself says they are doing a fair job
Just trying to get a good jump on a better news source.
I want to trust again.
I do not.
It felt as if msnbc and others knew he was going to win no matter what, and they were OK with it.
State after state results for the excrement came in, and they smiled. Haven't watched the news since.
There are issues with both. But we're not going to find perfect media anymore, if we ever did. I think we'll need to be critical and selective readers.
The ROK govt best be very cautious if things spiral to the point of violence while they've declared martial law. There were violent clashes involving the govt in 1980 in Gwangju/Kwangju that killed many, & memories of it were vivid when I was in SK w 2ID in 1994. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gwangju_Uprising
I live in South Korea. Lots of uncertainty on my end as a foreigner living here. I’m still not sure what to make of the situation. I live in Sejong City, where there was as a massive plan to the majority of gov offices to.
Hi! I'm reaching out on behalf of CBS News. I see that you're in South Korea, and I hope you're safe and doing well. We're looking to get in touch with an English speaker to get a sense of what things are like on the ground. Please send me a DM! Thank you so much!
Good. What they don't say , North Korea decided to step foot in south Korea with the aide of China and Russia. To pull what putin is do8ng with ukrine. And to prevent a coup.
Reminded me of the time Trump sent his military police all over the country, especially to Portland, to beat up protesters during the George Floyd protests. People were beat by batons and tear gas were thrown.

2025 under Trump?
also, though I support quality journalism, it's nice to know about this.

BBC News website in the UK leads with the Masterchef scandal.
Good grief.
Don’t believe a single thing BBC covers 😏

I do hope democracy will prevail.
I stand with democracy in the ROK.

Thank you. I'm glad you told me.
Ugh
I’ll bet Trump and his merry band of cabinet criminals are watching it carefully.

Isn’t this story worth reporting on rather than hunters pardon ?
BBC always delivers.
President needs to be impeached. He & military leaders need to be arrested & tried for treason.
I Don’t see elected Repugs doing this if/when Dementia Don tries it.
