One of my friends’ places got that once. For not having the correct procedures and documentation. Place was scrupulously clean though. Took a year of petitioning for a repeat visit, they eventually got their 5 back though.
There was (is) an Indian takeaway in Wrexham that we used to love. It was grubby, but delicious. We went in with some female friends once and they refused to eat the food as there were flies hanging around. “Authentic street food style” didn’t change their minds. Their loss.
From when I lived in Wrexham, there were at least half a dozen takeaways I frequented that this would apply to. Luckily, food hygiene ratings magically don't apply when you've been drinking.
Eastern Touch, opposite that row of clubs that was Chicago Rock and Liquid for a few years. And that one on the corner than changed ownership and rebranded approximately every six months.
I miss the Chinese takeaway just up the road. Staffed by an angry man. Food passed to him via the kitchen and a hatch by a woman who never spoke. Fantastic food.
Our local chippy was given a 2 a couple of years ago even though its hygiene was absolutely fine, it was on the back of H&S documentation, so it’s not always based on cleanliness. Saying that our local Chinese takeaway has had its mark reduced recently and the food remains the same as before.
