earth magic is still unbelievably the best option lol.
my review of Quest 64: Hard Mode-- interesting! remixed spirit locations are fun. The new spells are neat, but unbelievably outclass the originals. Magic is just... generally weaker? Which feels contrary to the intentions of the hack
Many enemies became HP walls, and ultimately increasing the length of fights doesn't feel harder, just... longer. I never felt the need to grind intentionally though, which was nice! The remixed item rules was good, as well
The glaring problem to me was huge spike points usually associated with enemies having access to one of the "new" spells (searing missile in Zelse's woods oh my god) which just are SO powerful you can nearly be killed by a single cast-- and they're undodgable, as well
Still, it was a fun new way to revisit a I love. I -still- think quest 64 has some of my fave design foundations, and some of the pragmatic solves they had to get the game released are interesting. i see echoes of it's systems in something like the misunderstood breath of fire: dragon quarter!!
