Wow, New York State has agreed to stop / lift its restrictions against the use of solitary confinement for three months!

Apparently amnesty for the wildcat strike wasn't good enough for COs. (Note that the wildcat strike has deprived prisoners of healthcare, visitation, all sorts of programming.) They want a total reversal of the HALT Solitary act (+more)

Some context about these corrections officers:

They are working 24-48hr shifts and not allowed a cell phone to contact their families.

They are being attacked on nearly daily basis and the inmates rarely face additional charges.

In some prisons, inmates have overrun entire dormitories forcing officers to retreat for fear of their safety.

They were told that 70% staffing is the new 100% staffing. Days off limited or denied entirely.

Some of these officers are my best friends who are mentally and physically exhausted.

So while there are more than a few bad eggs, the majority are just trying to make a living like everyone else. Many of them are military vets.

They deserve our support as none of us would volunteer to work in those conditions.

The "need" for solitary confinement is a result of the inhumane conditions and "Lord of the Flies" lifestyles prisoners are subjected to.
