Different strokes for different folks. Not everybody can do door knocking -- at least around here it's mostly pretty soul sucking. Being out on the street also sends a message & may energize some folks.
You probably need both... but the right pushes the idea that 'everyone is with them', so its very powerful when a mass of people show that's not the case.
It's unusual in Germany, but i.e. @der-neukoellner.bsky.social and his team from @die-linke.de did this in the last weeks. I think this should be done nore in Germany that politicians talk to ppl outside their bubble.
I think it’s so helpful to see how many others are in support of the same things. It can feel isolating (and they want us to feel that way) to watch them dismantle our systems.
Going door to door is not really a thing here, neither politicians nor anyone else except for scams, at least not in the big cities. (Don't know about rural areas but I don't remember anyone knocking in a mid sized city either.) If anything you get a leaflet from the parties at some point, maybe.
Ah, so that's the annoying 'minority' Friedrich #Merz, candidate for chancellor, was talking about when he broke the unwritten law, which has been in force for 80 years, never to work with right-wing extremists.
I think that’s the exact point they’re making - that the CDU was the firewall, the firewall is gone, but rather than just accept it a new firewall is required.
That's certainly a way to interpret their demand. It doesn't look feasible to me, in terms of parliamentary votes at federal level, without the CDU/CSU. One alternative of course is to ban the AfD, but would it even succeed before the constitutional court? The NPD ban didn'1.
OK. It’s just my instinct from afield that they’re aiming for an audience who a) aren’t thinking “protestors and their idiotic slogans, why do they bother?, and b) aren’t thinking that if the CDU won’t do it, everyone should give up and stay home.
oh, it's not idiotic to protest at this point at all. I'd do it to, if I were in Berlin, or where I live. Amongst other things it emboldens the opposition to the policy in the CDU. Which does exist.
Good to see the demos in Germany against extremism. The important thing is that everyone who is against extremism casts their vote on election day. Every single vote is important. At the moment, AFD support is still holding at between 21 and 23%, which is concerning.
A high turnout would be great. But many left leaning voters are unhappy with what's on offer, esp with regards to SPD as Scholz has been a pretty poor Chancellor. If they stay home they just hand AfD a bigger percentage of the vote.

In Virginia 12:30 to 1:30pm at Capitol Square. No marching. Rally only.
As to the rest, I have no idea. The below might help.
I'm not going to say it was planned to fail, but this level of planning fails.
I am.
I do.
I am literally a street medic.
I cannot get teams to show up on this level of info.
#AfDVerbotsofort
this is what you demonstrate against, not inheritance tax you will never pay
That's the only place where it might possibly be effective.
Anybody know of data on the question?
Really not how it's done in Germany.
Those protesters, as welcome as their protest is, aren't the firewall.
The CDU is. And if its elected leader and likely future Chancellor says "we'll accept votes from the AfD" then the firewall is gone.

I’d also say that if outside pressure is necessary to drive CDU, that pressure is part of the firewall in a very real sense.
