They should file for unemployment anyway. And if they reject it, go through the appeals process. Had to do that myself once when I was let go for financial reasons, but boss said it was because of poor performance. I have an “official” ruling that my firing was unjustified.
I just keep thinking they wouldn't be doing this if they weren't sure there would be no more elections. But it also could be that they're drug addled nazi idiots
