My family have about 500 acres after living in the state since 1850. Most family’s that held through the depression lost them in the 80s. No such thing as family farms anymore, they’re all giant corporations buying $500k combines lol
It’s all very sad to me. Both my maternal and paternal lines were farmers for generations. Now, there are none. Mom’s family auctioned off the last of their land about 10 years ago.
My grandpa retired in the mid 90s, passed about 10 years later. Both my dad & aunt went to college and had professions they didn’t want to leave for farming so our land has been in some program for conservation and not farmed. Just a long winded way of saying, I really don’t know. I know it’s dirty
enough that even though my dad probably would’ve preferred to farm, he knew he’d never make what he was making even with no land payment. Today, that could be different but back in the 90s that’s how it was— speaking of today— you’d need over 3 million to buy the land. & who has that kinda money?
As this is still being liked, I’ll just add- I haven’t spoke to my father since 2020. I do speak to my aunt and my 91 year old gma despite how they voted because one has no children and the other is 91. all have, imo, been brainwashed by Fox News- regardless of that though, I know, dad knows better.
I know dad knows better because he married a true blue Irish Catholic and voted for Clinton. She (my mother) divorced him though so back red he went. 🙃
I think maybe Grandma might be forgiven. After all, she comes from an entirely different generational upbringing filled with female loathing and misogyny in the guise of "good Christian values".
Never thought I’d be thankful my dad passed. Otherwise I’m not sure how our relationship would be. I have not spoken to 1 of my very right wing brothers since October.
Corporations are stateless, they exist purely to grow their money and power. How many of them actually pay the tax they are due to pay in any country? They own our politicians, who in turn don't close the loopholes these corporations use.
