some of these read like bots, especially the veterans one. the misinformed pedant arguing the definition of lynching probably a real person though, who just doesn't know the definition and didn't bother to look it up before commenting

I've seen plenty of that toxic "you're not a real veteran if you didn't ___" attitude from current and former military, and worse yet, from civilians. There are plenty of people, though, who served honorably but do not qualify for veteran status. I don't think that's right, but it is how it is.

Being a veteran can be complicated, but in that episode I clearly state that I'm a vet who served in combat during Afghanistan

It's far more complicated than it should be in my opinion. Your service qualifies by any metric; but I know people who have served in combat who are still not legally considered veterans. For purposes other than qualifying for benefits though, I doubt most people know the difference.
