I very much get all this. That said, a game that feels like a real weirdo fan game from someone who loves Fortnite, dug Elden Ring, and looked through the Dark Souls wiki was not what I expected.

So much time has passed that people have forgotten that FromSoftware have always intermittently done weird semi-experimental multiplayer games.
Armored Core 5, Chrome Hounds, and they even did a completely oddball strategy game - Thousand Land - on the original Xbox, and Japanese-only!
