It's very difficult to read about comic history without thinking that the creatives should have ganged up on the owners and beaten them with hammers at some point. Martin Goodman was out there charging Simon and Kirby for the building's electricity bill so he could pay less Captain America royalties

Liefeld in general is so funny. Did you know he possibly gave Mark Grunewald a heart attack. Like he used to take an early issue of Captain America to read over the weekends, then he took Liefeld's first issue on the book and fucking died that same weekend

I think it also really ties in part to how agressive and edgy the indie comics scene was heading into the 2000s. I mean in part it was because of a refusal of publishing and plenty of historical context but like when you’re treated like shit in your industry you also tend to be spiteful in your work

I think webcomics have kind of allowed for some creatives to legitmately have an avenue to express themselves and partially sustain themselves off their work at least which is something compared to before but yeah it’s still really kind of shit
