Unfortunately there isn't a "but an absolutely shitty thing to do" meter. I don't think mostly false quite expresses the nuance of how fucked up this is.
We just need to normalize not changing our names. That is about power and ownership and archaic. Wish I had thought more about it back in the day. The reality is that if there is the possibility of repressing voters, especially in Texas, they will do it.
Well you have to remember, they've had 160 years to practice through trial and error. Ever since "other than white men" got the vote, they've been hard at work trying to nullify that.
I changed my name when I married my wife. We both changed to the same last name. When we did it in 80βs, I thought everyone would be doing it because it is such a cool symbol of the sharing in marriage.
Turns out I was just a silly hopeful idealist. Guess Iβll be enfranchised too.
FYI: white women were the largest group to benefit from DEI, and yet, they voted en masse for Trump, against their own self interest. We are a nation of "Karens" now. Of the white women who voted, about 70% went for Trump. FAFO.
The most outrageous threat to voting to date. Eliminating a large block of voters is so un American, especially married women. What genius dreamed this up?
