I am so thrilled to share our last paper on the WAfrica MSA sites "Constraining the age of the Middle Stone Age locality of Bargny (Senegal) through a combined OSL-ESR dating approach" (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.qeh.2024.100044)!

Through a combination of two dating methods on the same quartz materiel, OSL and ESR, we dated the human occupation at Bargny around 130 thousands years, confirming the early presence of MSA occupations along the Senegambian coast around the MIS 6-MIS 5 transition!
This resaerch has received funding from the Fyssen Foundation, the Max Planck Society (Human Palaeosystems Group), and the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme!
A very interesting and complicated piece of research. It is shame that archaeological excavations are not available to cross-reference or the availability of pollen analysis to determine the dates more precisely.
