I have started with a title. I've started with a character. I've started with a concept. I've started with a "can you write something that does xxxx". So I am not sure I have a clear answer on this part of the question.... #kidlitchat

What's hardest for you? I'm currently in a situation where I know only one scene -- the climax of the story -- and I am trying to build the rest of the story around it. It's difficult for me, but the scene is so fun that I don't want to give it up! #kidlitchat
I don't think it's this choice that makes it hardest. I think no matter where I start it becomes a question of if I can find the right characters and story to fit the idea. Like... some titles have "written themselves" and others I have never moved beyond the title to anything satisfying #kidlitchat
There's a book called Write your Novel From the Middle (I think that's the title) and it's pretty great for walking through how to find your story if you only know one piece, too.
I also have so many different starting points for my stories! But whether I'm starting with a title, a concept, a question, or a conflict, that bit of a start always centers around my main character somehow, so I can safely say that character is always first for me. At least, so far. #KidLitChat
