As someone who used to live in Texas, I understand and mourn for trans/queer ppl who live there. But I will not travel to a state with legislation like this (or even what Texas has now) for a LAN.

These states are not safe for our community and will only get worse over the coming years.

as someone from ohio, As much as I love Riptide being in Ohio, it needs to move. Sandusky is the middle of nowhere and outside of the tourists for cedar point and convention goers, the community is not safe for most splatoon players

we really just need more grassroots splatoon-only majors, almost all of our majors are glued on to smash majors and even if we get our own room in the venue it feels like we have always been at their mercy. 1/

unfortunately the smash community can be. extremely unpleasant to deal with at times, to put it softly, and is far less diverse and inherently queer than the splatoon community is. as sad as it is, i dont think this is as high priority of an issue to smash TO's (even though it really should be)-- 2/

--since it affects a much smaller percentage of their playerbase. while i'd love to see the smash community take a bigger stand i really do think this falls on us to find more independence for events and i'd gladly pay a higher reg fee to support us building our own events up in better places.

sorry for the long winded response btw this has been weighing on my mind a lot lately too with riptide on the horizon lol. i am really hoping that, at the bare minimum, the organizers are able to take steps to ensure the venue itself will be safe and welcoming towards everyone but i'm still uneasy.

Not only is it important that we reevaluate where events are being held for trans attendees' safety, it's also a way of protesting economically, refusing to give money to businesses in states with those laws.

Something else worth mentioning too is that international LANs may also not be a good alternative for Trans Americans with the whole passport thing going on. I know people are probably going to recommend GOML instead of riptide since it's just on the other side of the lake, but that may not work.

I say we move Riptide back to Wisconsin Dells. Not only is it in an area with more recreational options- it was held there initially and was successful.

I also suggest minnesota for large conventions, we have many amenities here!
