Times like these I miss Hawken for being a very interesting sort of Western/Eastern Mecha hybrid game. Battletech looking mecha with anime-level speed and boost mechanics.

It also had this cubical ahhhhhhh doofus as the starting mech.

most guys i met enjoyed the boosting and jumping around like "eastern" mecha and the very kow kobayashi-inspired aesthetic, but they were also as hardline anti-melee as the MWO folks and insisted they weren't weebs.
the few weebs there were very cool though

It's a shame there's no proper Battletech/Mechwarrior shows. The cartoon is delightful if you take it as an "in universe" propaganda cartoon, but it's also not great. The cross pollination with Macross designs gives it an interesting mixed flavor, at least to early stuff.
