He had a higher education loan tied to his parent's (your) accounts?
Have either of you applied to have it excused or reduced or put on repayment schedule?
Did you receive notification of the money was just gone?
What percentage did they take?

Did they change the rules? It used to be a permanent disability meant DOE would write off your loan. No more payments due if you're never able to work again.
