I stand by my contention that we shall know when we have created actual, sentient artificial intelligence when it is capable of telling us, "No."

What we have is an ecology-wrecking plagiarism machine, a glorified autocorrect serving the purpose of eternal war in Orwell's 1984--to consume.

So yeah. ChatGPT, Midjourney, all that nonsense--it cannot meaningfully refuse its creators' orders, therefore it is not artificial intelligence. It is simply a shite-spewing con, transferring wealth to a few techbro grifters.

And some jackasses are slurping the shite, pretending it's delicious.
Well said
"AI" no longer truly means "artificial intelligence"; if that bothers you, take it up with the techbro grifters who co-opted the term, not with me. Humans can make other names for things. It's kind of what we do. Go get to work doing that if you're really upset.
Anyway, "AI" is not sentience. It's not even intelligence. It cannot meaningfully tell us "no", it simply serves up statistically likely lies from a vast pool of stolen data mixed up into gibberish slurry.

And some dumb assholes claim they want it near their art. 🙄
Remember that section in Goldstein's book, where the eternal tripartite war is merely to burn, vaporise, sink, and destroy production capacity which might otherwise keep the entire human species in comfort?

Yeah. Like that.
