For the Midwesterners, do you think you'll be spreading step 1 fertilizer earlier this year due to the mild winter? Normally I would do it mid-April but I feel this year may be the exception...plus I'm already seeing some plants coming up š±

Early N application right before a bunch of spring rain sets off alarm bells for me bc of runoff. But if seeds are sprouting it's time for the pendimethalin.
You can get pendimethalin granules by themselves for the weed control. The Step program has a pretty high annual N application rate. How long have you been using it and when was the last time you tested your soil?
How many pounds of annual N per 1000 feet did the last lab test suggest? Do you bag your clippings or use a mulching mower? The latter can cut your N fert requirements by half. Illinois so....clayey soil? Turf species?
I don't remember, I'd have to try to find it, if I even kept it. We do mulch it. Clayish soil, mix of rye, KY bluegrass and a third variety that I can't remember right now
