I’ve been working in tech/infosec for a while now and one of the biggest problems I consistently see is this concept of not considering how something can be abused— or hell, not considering if something should even be made at all.

Absolutely. Developers have enough on their plate just to get a capability functional. The goal of shift left is to get more security focus earlier in the dev process, but to your point, it really needs someone who comes in with that mindset.
Yeah, I’m talking about ethics and how that’s often not a consideration before or during the design process.
Security is obviously important as well, but without an ethical basis, focus on privacy, etc. things tend to drastically do more harm than good to people at the most basic level.
A long time ago, I worked with a developer on a location-based chat app. My idea was students in a lecture hall spontaneously chatting without any setup, etc. When brainstorming, thought of bad ways it could be used. The Developer said it wasn’t our problem. I scrapped the project

It *is* the “problem” of whoever makes something to ensure their creation doesn’t cause significant harm.
