I’ll likely never see a wolf here in the Midwest but I do have livestock and guardian dogs for them ( coyotes are the main predator). In the west that isn’t feasible.
Outside of compensation for lost stock I wonder what kind of compromise would be fair to ranchers?
honestly am not involved and don't know. Of course that should have said "farmers compensated". I'm likely to have been one of the urban CO voters that voted to approve their re-introduction. We have a pack of Coyotes that live in a largely unused drainage ditch at the back of our house. That's wild
Those coyotes are actually a good sign there aren’t wolves in the area👍 that’ll be the first thing the wolves kill. They’re an apex predator and they kill off competition for food, much like humans.
If the wolves make it this far south, and into the cities, we will know before they get here. I'm sure that if it becomes a real problem(when?) there will be some form of recall/reform and we will get to see that you don't always get what you vote for.
I get it, hey it’s your state do what you guys see fit. As a conservationist I can see the wolves wreaking absolute havoc on the elk population. It’ll may bring them back to homeostasis. I’d look for a steep decline in elk numbers and livestock/pets. Wolves kill for sport, not just food.
