Is this a fantasy world?
If so, how broad do you want your fantasy and does it make sense for players to be the races that you want in that breadth? Are some things off limits, if so create a detail or rule as to why.

Yes this is very much a fantasy world, based mostly off of Norse and Irish mythos and folklore, I think that a lot of the races that I am planning do fit well in this. I wouldn't place any ideas off limit because I am planning to add small part and ideas from other mythologies and some ideas 1/2

from DnD itself, instead of making a rule on what players can and cant use for races I would rather make a list of races and be quite lenient with how my players make their characters looks wise, I can also list the races I have thought of already if that helps. 2/2

My thought was more along the "does a bug bear or hobgoblin fit?"
