My favorite type of person right now is "Gamer who is mad about Switch 2 prices but refuses to acknowledge the economic realities of the world right now so they just conclude that Nintendo is An Evil Company"

The Switch price reveal was on the same day that the United States announced tariffs. The tariffs are absolutely priced in. But you got people like "hmmm I just think it is because Nintendo is uniquely greedy"
This is where I ultimately end up:
- Tariffs played a factor, but these prices are also EVERYWHERE, not just the US
- Cost of Living and people not getting livable wages is absolutely a problem, generally
- Nintendo should not be trying to push out any version of a game for $80, period
The first part is a lot more complicated, but the US dollar absolutely affects other regions and there's a reason Japan is much cheaper than outside Japan.
$80 is too much. I agree. I will still be getting the Switch 2 and Mario Kart but I absolutely will not buy games nearly as often
Yea I’d imagine. I don’t want to talk too much on my end of something where I need more knowledge/understanding. But the cheaper version of Switch 2 in Japan is region locked. While the non region locked is basically as much as it is everywhere, too. And yea less games for me, too 😔
Nintendo is evil. they have made huge efforts to stop emulation and game preservation and an infinite number of things. You can be mad about this without being required to acknowledge that. I think devs should get paid well. I also don't think a mario kart game should cost 90$.
All of the beginning things have nothing to do with being mad at Switch prices. I dont like how expensive the games are either. I'm not saying people need to like Nintendo.
I absolutely do think you can consider all of their actions in anger at the prices, but more directly - as hardware for the switch went down, did the price? Not sales, but did the MSRP fall for the switch?
No? OK, then why spike the price for the new console?

You can criticize something you like.
