And, yes, there is a tension or irony here ... the US was established upon occupied sovereign territory, as were all countries in the Americas.

But now the occupying nation is being occupied.

I do understand the impulse toward schadenfreude, but everyone will suffer from the ironic twist.

Certainly the Indigenous folks among my ancestors would agree with my present day Indigenous friends and allies that the country was established on occupied land ... or that it is made up of many hundreds of occupied sovereign territories. Yup.
