I was sadder about losing Miura a few years ago, but man was Toriyama's cultural impact danged gigantic. If he had merely created the characters from Chrono Trigger it would have been enough for immortality, and instead he gave us *spreads arms*

The first Nintendo game I owned myself whose name I can't precisely recall had a gold cartridge and a battery so you didn't need save game codes. The very first critter I met in the game was that little guy. I musta killed a million slimes in every possible color before I was 10. RIP Akira-san.

I think it was Dragon Warrior or something and I used to think it had a 'final fantasy' subtitle, but I was like 6 at the time. I've tried to find it a few times over the years and never succeeded so I'm probably misremembering it. Anyways, it was a very standard JRPG.

It was Dragon Warrior. They changed the name from Dragon Quest to that due to a trademark quibble here.

It was the first game in the series, most likely.

Yuji Horii actually did the original doodle of the slime as a placeholder and asked Toriyama to design a monster like that. He was apparently shocked when Toriyama returned a drawing that was mostly unchanged but somehow infinitely more endearing.
