The projector feature was removed over concerns that the effect may be lost because of the lighting at some locations. This feature pre-dated the Stranger Things projector by decades, but it doesn’t count because it never happened lol.

Other features that were considered or removed included an Up/Down post between the flippers called the “Magic Post,” and the game’s trunk was originally on the right side of the playfield and had a side with a rear projection vision of different Magic illusions.

The game has a number of cool features that were removed for cost or design changes. The most well-known of them is the Tiger Saw, which was supposed to be covered in foil and spin when the captive ball was hit and during the Tiger Saw mode. Today mod makers make kits to add it to the game.

Wow! Why make up a silly back-story? Does anybody care who the nameless, sexy magician is? Never did anyone play a pinball machine and say, "that was good, but the story needed more character development."
