This could lead to an interesting development. The Earth's oceans have been thought to be low in iron, and this condition plays a role in limiting biological productivity. The Antartic waters may exhibit increased productivity if this iron contribution continues.

It's not really getting to open waters, rather a localized phenomena. Then agian, if the system will become iron unlimited, it will become limited by something else, maybe copper or zink.

Imagine if you could walk that ridge thousands of years ago and you see this waterfall of blood the size of a building; You would think the earth itself had been stabbed by some giant. That could've lead to the development of some major religion. Life is crazy.
