Everyone should have the official government emergency app for their respective state or territory. It’s a no brainer, especially if you live in a rural area like myself.

Social media was essential during the big fires. People on the spot reporting the local situation. Emergency apps give you general information but it isn’t as instantaneous as people actually going through it.
There’s definitely a place for social media when it comes to emergencies like bushfires but people shouldn’t be relying on it as their sole source of information and updates. It’s a good companion to have alongside the official state gov apps, no doubt about it.
I really appreciate that. How to improve communication to communities has been a discussion focus for emergency response. Including having someone on the ground who understands what's happening in real time and communicating in real time.
