First test: pancakes. Compared to our carbon steel pan definitely more user friendly. Not entirely surprising, but the general consensus is that the coating won't last. Will update when it fails.
I can't recommend stainless steel pans enough. Bought one a couple months back, it took a few tries to get the feel of making stuff not stick to it, but definitely worth it.
Also if you WANT stuff to stick so you can deglaze it later with wine, you get a lot more flavor than from non-stick
We got a few cast iron pans and couldn't recommend them more. With a good season, nothing will stick to them. They're super easy to clean and last forever.
I think cast iron is great if you can cook with them. There is a reason Teflon pans are used all over the place and I don't think the default buyer is going to convert. But if IKEA phases them out entirely, it's a different story about mainstream adoption of alternatives.
I agree. Ikea's move to use ceramic coating is a great one, as it's definitely healthier than Teflon. We hadn't switched to cast iron because we thought it was a hassle, but it turns out it's super low maintenance.
We use carbon steel for some of our non stick uses rather than cast iron. I'm okay with the latter, but it's quite heavy and my wife is not a big fan of it.
Oh man, I was just there today and didn’t notice this. On a similar note, I really wanted to like their remotely dimmable bulbs, but they’re so unreliable. But overall, yes, very clear they have huge impact with what they offer.
