As a tourist, Wien was really comfortable to travel in. The extensive tram system is so much more comfortable than the buses. But there's still a lot of car-oriented streets and intersections. Bikes didn't seem as popular compared to other European city I've been to.

Bikes are quite isolated in some parts of the city. It’s slowly improving.

I did few bike trips between Vienna and Bratislava and it felt pretty smooth. First time on Eurovelo 6 - last time on the road B9 and as soon as I've hit the edge of the city there was continuous bike infrastructure - not always in obvious way but confusing detours can be found even in Denmark.

As a comparison, here are data for my city (Québec City) for 2017. The bars are "car driver, car passenger, public transport, active transport (bike + walking), car and public transport". We are so bad here...

Yep, we definitely move forward in many small steps.
I guess Vienna / Austria just isn't cut out for major strides like Paris or London took in recent years

you can basically traverse Vienna by foot in 35 minutes. You wouldn't even reach the next arrondissement in Paris in this time.

well, that's not true.
I can walk from the 5th to the 8th in 35minutes, but that's only "inner city districts"

but sure, Vienna is smaller than Paris, but that's not what I said. All I said is they took bolder steps to a car-less city

Vienna has a super slow start, but it does feel like it's picking up a bit. Even for small things like new tram lines coming with a bit of cycle lanes on the side. It's not enough though and I wish we would see more.

What I meant: Paris was always an unwalkable city. Traffic, public Trans. in Paris was inhumane until maybe 15 years ago. They absolutely needed a reinvention of Transport and mobility, and have achieved what I never thought possible: you actually enjoy strolling, and 🚲 highways are amazing.

It’s definitely a lot better than most places. I think it’s a nice city to walk and one small point that helps imo is the ease of buying a train ticket and normally you don’t need to show it. Compared to London where the entry / exit points become frustrating.
