It was indeed a masterpiece. So much better the 2001 A Space Odyssey (which is great) because you can actually see a menacing monster instead of a glass red cylinder.

Alien is amazing for a bunch of reasons but also because it doesn’t look dated at all. it came out like 50 years ago and it looks and feels better than 90% of movies released today, and has such an incredible aesthetic it’s dominated sci fi culture for a half century

My dad was a driver on this production. He was for many, many movies. He never really talked about them because when they are being made, nobody knows if they are going to be good or not. The reason he mentioned Alien, was because crew were never allowed near or on sets. Continuity and set designers

Are very precious about their work. Alien stood out because none of them were allowed to go off set except during filming. Everyone from drivers, to electricians were required to use the sets as their lunch and break rooms. Got a take away meal, coffee whatever they ate it on the sets. Unlike

All previous space movies, which were shiny and antiseptic looking. They wanted the set of the Nostromo to look like a working piece of kit, used and abused by a roughneck bunch of space miners.

You’re welcome, I’m not even sure my dad knew what the movie was, but as a regular production driver he was so used to sitting for hours in anterooms, kept away from sterile sets, they all found it quite novel
