Romance in RPGs - a thread
So I love a bit of romance in RPGs, I also love cultivating strong in character friendships and camaraderie.
There are a bunch of things my gaming crew do to make it come alive and I'm going to tell you all about it.

We talk a lot about whether romance is on the table and how it might play out. We don't pre-determine scenes but there will be at table and off table communication about who is interested in those stories, the pacing of them and the expectations and limits.

You can put romance in any game, but some games give you better tools for communication and a system that supports those stories.
Any game with good relationship questions at character gen teases out interesting potential early on.

It is a lot of fun making your first romantic moves in character! I might describe:
- holding someone's gaze a second too long
- accidentally brushing their hand
even better if doing this surprises and shocks your own character as if they were unaware of their own feelings

I mention this tip all the time because it is so good and so multi-purpose, doubly so for romance plots.
Processing feelings aloud gives other players information they can use to increase the drama or collude in the direction of the story!

I love watching how romance plays out in my games whether I'm in the budding relationship or watching it. They are delicate, subtle and beautiful stories opening the door to drama, tragedy and pathos as well as love.

Always!
These stories need some trust, that trust starts with consent and open communication.
