yeah they pretty much fell out of foodie vogue everywhere afaict bc people get violently sick from stray poo germs on raw sprouts on a semi-regular basis
Oh you want a regulatory body to do what it takes me, extensive internet instructions and probably pretty specific knowledge, a lot of supplies, and God knows how many hours, to do? Do tell.
oh ffs, I HAVE AN ACTUAL FARM. I homestead. Ask the people who actually grow food whether they're worried about food regulations being torn apart and they'll all say yes, because those of who know something about growing food also know that it needs to be done IN COMMUNITY, OR WE ARE ALL FUCKED
If we all die of bird flu before the year is out because people think they're getting clever with backyard chickens they don't know how to manage as a 'cost-saving solution for safe meat and eggs at home' I will be very annoyed but not even a little bit surprised at this point.
I called Tractor Supply to pick up my usual yearly order of chicks and the lady answered the phone with "TRACTOR SUPPLY WE DON'T HAVE ANY CHICKS!", and apparently the line for baby chicks at The Mill starts two hours before they open. People are being bananas right now
If I ever had a fair amount of land it's something I'd consider, but... nope, not now. I'm in the suburbs and honestly just waiting to hear the first morning rooster, tbh.
these total asshats! i wanna be able to cook and eat food i buy at the grocery store and trust it won't kill me as long as i do it correctly and take the drugs that make my brain somewhat tolerable! fuck!!!!
You can't just grow all the food you need for all the calories and vitamins. Fruits, veggies, meats, grains shouldn't all be on the same farm! Just the poop problem alone is a full time job! And I can't just make Oreos for myself!
Also, not for nothing, but all this creating and processing/ preserving of food is arduous work, and that’s not even considering the risk of lay people trying to sprout or can based on vibes.
Sure I can grow sprouts at home, but it helps to know that I have a national food safety system keeping an eye out, so the mung beans or whatever that I get from the health food place aren't already contaminated by E. coli before they germinate
oh thank goodness SPROUTS. The food supply will be nonstop poison but at least I have a mason jar of crunchy water with like 40 calories in it that I can eat once a month.
You can put it on the tilapia you raise in the baby pool on your back porch…once all food brings mass death we will all become so handy and self-sufficient…just gotta watch out for rickets now that the kids can’t drink milk after the last mass poisoning incident.
Not to mention the fact that they’re very prone to bacteria and are a huge cause of food-borne illness. Not sure that sprouting at home magically protects people

Even during full growing season with a big garden you still get stuff from the store
