I enjoy my Xbox. Not having to worry about upgrading individual parts is awesome. I just have so many games I've received for free from Steam, Epic, GoG, etc compared to my Xbox library.
While I wish that would come true, I don't see how that could make any financial sense to Microsoft/Xbox.
Consoles are subsidized (sold at a loss) and they get the money back by selling games and peripherals. If people buy on Steam, they'd get far less and it wouldn't be profitable for them.
Also, how would Steam games work on Xbox hardware? Would Steam devs be expected to all go optimize their games for the hardware? Or would console players be expected to fiddle with settings for 20 minutes to get a game running properly? Neither solution would ever happen
The change is already happening. It's not quite there yet, due to lots of upgrade requirements on the current infrastructure, but it is something MS has been investing a lot into.

We've seen MS and Xbox diversify more and more recently, all to its benefit.
The future of the gaming marketplace is changing so much.
It will be interesting to see where it goes.
People put way too much emphasis on exclusivity if you ask me.
I don't have a lack of great games to play.
I have a lack of time to play.
