There are concerns with this, of course, like people joining just to get direct access to artists they like from a parasocial standpoint. I've dealt with this in my own servers even and it tends to be one of the main reasons larger artists don't like joining communities.

I've been dreaming of this kind of server. Would love to be a part of one.

Another issue is when a server gets too big, voices get lost in the crowd and they tend to go dormant after a while.

The easiest way would be a server for artists only and verify everyone who joins is really an artist, but that would take a lot of time. Another artist I follow did that once, for artists who followed her, but she was hospitalized and the server fell dead without her. She's fine now though!

Glad to hear they're alright, and yeah I had something like that in mind. But it's hard to justify if someone is doing it to try and get close, suddenly decide to scribble and say they're an artist without any real interest, etc. like you said screening could take a while

There's a server I'm in that verifies artists by asking for 3 finished pieces, 3 WIP pieces (or the sketch stage or other finished pieces if you don't have active WIPs), and 3 screenshots of your layers (for digital artists), and if there's still doubts, they ask you to doodle something specific

I was in a small server (<20 members) of artists before with feedback and art discussions and all that.

Feedbacks and weekly discussions were fun and insightful until, it felt like a chore after ~2 months due to life priorities and pressured to be “active”, even if I seriously wanted to improve. 😭

Some amount of pressure does make sense but everyone's lives are different. They probably just wanted to make sure the space didn't fall apart. I could see that happening for sure

i think that larger artists should remind their fanbases that they are human just like them

or just be as dweeb loser as possible to burn away the parasocial attachment without being elitist

I think finding a larger artist that's truly up their own ass is pretty rare. Most of the concern is from the general user end being very creepy and personal with artists they look up to and not having a very good concept of personal respect

I remember doing this in person with a few people back in the day. It was a lot of fun. Get some art nights going and work on stuff together. Problems/tips usually got passed around fairly quickly because of the mutual work environment.

I wish there were more places like this, the closest thing I've got to an "artist guild" was pretty much a friend circle with artists friends, but a guild like that in a larger scale sounds like a fun idea
